LegitimateGolf Weekly Pick-em
LegitimateGolf Weekly Pick-em
New Fantasy Golf idea for us. No yahoo bench swapping etc.
Each week, just pick a foursome by listing in the thread. Then collect points based on your team performance off the scorecards. Add up your points using something like this:
Eagle 2.5 pts
Birdie 1
Par 0
Bogie -.5
Double -1.5
Triple (and above) - 2.5
Plus modifiers:
Two birdies (or better) in a row: +.5
Three in a row: +1
Top 10 finish: +1
Top 3 finish: +2
Win: +3
Just thinking out loud. What do you think?

Re: LegitimateGolf Stableford Pick-em
I am not very interested in any sort of Fantasy contest involving the PGA. Maybe an LPGA contest? Make it simple like name two players and get points for top 10 (and ties) finishes - 10 for 1st, 9 for 2nd, etc...jfurr wrote:

Someone (Beef?) could could declare certain players as ineligible (like Inbee, Ariya, Lydia) to make us work at learning about the other women.
Let's Play 36

Re: LegitimateGolf Stableford Pick-em
I say good idea to both. I'll be honest I started scowling when I saw the thread title but giving it a chance it's a much better game than the conventional fantasy golf format, which like all other corporate fantasy sports platforms is nothing more than a elaborate ruse to keep people glued to their sites. The stupid Yahoo interface barely even worked anyways. I always felt like an asshole trying to refresh the page, only to have it regress backwards to an older result. We could easily play one of these silly games without one of those brain-dead corporate sites.
I like BK's idea as well, it's a timely one too as the LPGA is about to begin this week. Interesting proposal about making players ineligible.
I swore off fantasy golf (and very bitterly if I remember correctly) but if it's something homegrown I can get behind it. We should break into committees and draft up rules and junk.

Re: LegitimateGolf Stableford Pick-em
Four players for four days might be too much to compute to stay fun. Maybe it should just be a Sunday final round game.
BK to be honest I understand your LPGA suggestion but I'm the opposite - more interested in the PGA Tour.
Or maybe we pick a mix like two PGA players, one LPGA, and one Champions?

A test run using the PGA. Run it to the Masters. I like the concept of exempting the best/popular players to make us work at finding someone who might play well.

Re: LegitimateGolf Stableford Pick-em
I'd do this.
My opinion is I like the simplicity of BK's idea. But I really like the "mixed" format Jfurr proposes.
Maybe something like:
Pick 5 players (2 PGA, 2 LPGA, and 1 Champions):
For each player you do the following.
1st place - 50 pts
top 10 - 25 pts
top 20 - 10 pts
made cut - 3 pts
MC - (5) pts
WD/DNF - (20) pts
Person with the most points each week wins.
How about the looser (or winner) prior week picks players that are ineligible for the next week? If they don't pick it's a free-for-all.

Re: LegitimateGolf Stableford Pick-em
I second Mr. Fish's proposal. The Stableford idea is a good one, but too cumbersome. I feel we need to make points on the final outcome primarily as the Fish proposal does, but it would be Ok with me with getting points for individual days outcome as well, although with different number of rounds for PGA, LPGA and Champions, it could get messy. I would take 2 PGA, 1 LPGA and 1 Champion though, for a total of 4 players.
This proposal is easy, straightforward and involves the ladies (to please Mr Beef and Mr Kuehn). What else do we want?

I'm ok with that. I just liked the mixed idea (don't care what the mix looks like).legitimatebeef wrote:No Champions Tour action. Please. I am begging you.

That sounds good to me. Two PGA and two LPGA. Can you clarify the last paragraph - about what makes a player ineligible for the next week?jasonfish11 wrote:I'd do this.

Also we have to change the name to Weekly Pick-em or something.

Re: LegitimateGolf Stableford Pick-em
My thought was each week have the person who lost the prior week decide who is ineligible the following week.jfurr wrote: Can you clarify the last paragraph - about what makes a player ineligible for the next week?
That way it isn't always on Beef and you get some consolation for picking some terrible people last week.
Also it could be the person who won the prior week, I just thought the loser would be better.
As a side note, I think it would be interesting to say "no one with a TaylorMade Driver is eligible this week" but if we just have them name certain people that works too.
Keep it short stupid.
Re: LegitimateGolf Stableford Pick-em
Cool. What about 3 PGA and one LPGA pick? Or is 2 and 2 preferred?jasonfish11 wrote:My thought was each week have the person who lost the prior week decide who is ineligible the following week.jfurr wrote: Can you clarify the last paragraph - about what makes a player ineligible for the next week?

Re: LegitimateGolf Stableford Pick-em
BK I really like your LPGA picks.
I almost picked the same 2 (actually they'd both be in my top 5).
LPGA - Mo Martin & Lizette Salas (I was thinking Mo & Stacey Luis, but wanted to pick more dark horse). Both can find their share of fairways, and I'm hoping the wind blows.
PGA - Boo Weekly (accurate driver & good out of the rough) & Dustin Johnson (it's a lot easier hitting wedges out of the rough, bomb & gouge. Also he is the king at shortened events, and the weather looks iffy).
I really wanted to pick Andrew "Beef" Johnston just because he seems like a really fun person to be around.

Re: LegitimateGolf Weekly Pick-em
Oh, what the hell, I'll play as long as someone else is going to be the administrator, and that administrator will give a reminder each week.
PGA:
Hideki Matsuyama
Patrick Reed
LPGA:
Ariya Jutanugarn
Lexi Thompson
I want El Tigré to win above all else.

I wonder about that. I've heard him interviewed and there doesn't seem to be all that much there. I think he is just a tubby, bearded, jolly-looking canvas onto which people are projecting their own values.jasonfish11 wrote:I really wanted to pick Andrew "Beef" Johnston just because he seems like a really fun person to be around.

Breakin' freakin' site news.
So I thought we could use this to hide our picks. Obviously we can still look but if we believe in the honor system, it could work.
