I thought all of the schools were closed for spring break this week in Augusta.
I will stand in the fairway, I want to be out of your range.

Maybe so. I just know here it was a big deal. No wind issues here so far but heavy rain and hail. Coincidentally i was supposed to get a new roof today. Hope the course doesn't get any damage.

I spent 2.5 hours in the parking lot and 40 min inside Augusta national. I did get a pimento cheese sandwich and I got as far as amen corner before they kicked us out.

For reference amen corner was the closest part of the course to the gate I came in.

While waiting for the gates to reopen we did some fun math. We found out that they can get 10,000 cars in the parking lot. We guessed 3500 of those had golf clubs in the trunk and probably an average of 1.5 sets of clubs for each of those 3500. Assuming $1000 per set that means there was around $5,000,000 worth of golf clubs sitting in the Masters parking lot.

Yay! Pimento cheese (a.k.a. 'adipose sandwich' - Kurt the Knife)

I did it was the most majestic 30 min I've ever spent on a golf course. :rofl Later today I'll do a bigger write up and try to figure out how to get the pictures on.

So here is my masters trip. Here is a brief itinerary of how the day worked for us, before I start going into things I saw.
10:15 park get out of car and take 3 steps before we hear "Don't bother they just closed the course"
10:30 we look at radar and figure we have until about 1:00 before they MIGHT reopen
11:30 storm moves north skies clear so we say f' it lets walk to the gate.
11:50 at gate w/ a couple hundred people (one of the pictures). We hear a groan from the front and a group of folks walking away. One of them tells us "they just said they are going to hold off on a decision until 2:00." We spend 10-15 min deciding what we want to do, cut bait and drive home, go get lunch and come back, ect...
12:05 hear a massive applause from the front gate while we are trying to decide what to do...Um that must be good
12:15 the intercom says they will open at 12:30 :yess :banana
12:30 get to the metal detectors
12:45 get through the metal detectors
12:50 take the most majestic piss ever lol
12:55 spend $7.50 on lunch (pimento cheese, turkey & cheese, cookie, and soda).
1:00 walk up 15 and around amen corner.
1:30 start walking to the driving range to see if people are practicing (no players were on the course or at least not amen corner).
1:33 hear alarm and announcement that they are closing the course for the entire day :fk :fkno :jesus
1:45 realize they close down everything and I can't get something from the gift shop (even closed down the toilets)
2:10 get back to car
3:10 get out of parking lot
11:00 get back home

Ok that being said here are the very brief notes I have. I'm not a great "blogger" so this will be terrible if you compare a write up that beef or someone else would give.

I'll ignore all the things people always say about the course (so much elevation change, perfect grass, super green, ect). Also keep in mind I saw the following holes half of 11, and half of 18, all of 12, 13 and 15. I saw NOTHING else.

So what stuck out to me was how massive the course seemed to be. The fairways were very generous from what I normally play. The other big thing was there was no "rough" I didn't expect the masters to have US Open type rough, but if you put a ball in the "rough" it wouldn't get close to the equator of the ball. Maybe 1/3 of the way up? I've played from fairways that are shaggier. Also the mound short right of #11 is way bigger than I realized from TV. From the base to the top its about 7' high. The last thing I saw was there is a wooden "cabin" type thing left of the pond on #11 that I never had noticed before. Assuming you play the right tees, it didn't really look like a really hard course from a ball striking perspective (wide fairways, no rough, easy punches when you do get in trouble in the pine straw). I didn't get close enough to any of the greens but from what everyone says chipping/putting is where the course defends itself.

Non-course related things, I found it funny that they had a phone bank for people to call other people (given you can't have cellphones on the course). Also the people working were just ear to ear smiles and very nice. Even when they were kicking us out.

Other notes, the sub air system is like a jet engine under the ground when you are walking over one of them. It is pretty loud.
I really was so much less impressed by "Phil's plaque" from his pine straw shot on #13. Yes the circumstances made it an impressive shot, and maybe there was a tree that got removed since he hit it, so it could have been different at the time. But there wasn't really any tree trouble, up in the pine straw where he was it is flatter instead of being well below his feet (like if he were in the FW). I looked at it thinking I could get 1 in 15 or 1 in 20 balls to land on the green from there. It was 205 yards and hitting out of pine straw doesn't affect the ball assuming you hit it clean, its identical to a FW bunker. Now holding the green might be completely different as I don't have any good information on how hard it would be for me to hold the greens given I saw no one playing, and I didn't really get close to any greens. But the fundamentals of the shot, it is always told like he had to do something special, in reality all he had to do was hit a stock 6i. He didn't need to flight it under/around trees. The only difficult thing was it was off pine straw and the situation.

Overall I really did enjoy my 30 min even though I feel the course is overhyped. Maybe I'm jaded because I only spent 30 min there, and I'm annoyed. But it felt like going to a decent movie after each of your friends say it is the best movie ever made. You walk away thinking ah. Don't get me wrong, its beautiful, what you read about the not having a single blade of grass out of place is true. It is 1000 times better than any other course I've ever played. But the majesty was lost on me. That being said I really badly want to go back and get the full experience. I think my hopes/expectations will be a little more tempered next time though.

So I might be one of the very few people who spent less than $10 on their first trip to Augusta National. I'm a little disappointed that I didn't get raped in the merchandise tent.

Like I said super brief write up here are the few pictures I took.

Thanks. The photo link worked and you did a nice job with your 30 minutes. Any info on how they might handle the fact that you never really got to use your ticket? Maybe give you a chance to purchase a ticket next year or, heavens forbid, give you a free practice round ticket next year?

So the policy basically states "we are deeply sorry you got screwed."

That being said I'm going to email them in a week or so asking if I can somehow purchase 4 tickets for a practice round next year instead of needing to go through the lottery. I figure the worst thing they can say is no.

Ouch. Looks like Amen Corner is fuckin' shit up for a lot of players. Too bad all the info we really have is little more than what they had in the telegraph era. Oops, I forgot, limited coverage is what makes the Masters oh-so special.

That's why I like the LPGA. Almost every tournament is very, very special in that regard. :fuckall

Go to Masters.com and they are showing Amen Corner and 15&16 coverage in the mornings, plus a featured group.
