Re: 2017 LPGA thread
This week's LPGA player to watch is Titiya Plucksataporn, from United States. I know nothing about this player. The name just caught my eye.

Re: 2017 LPGA thread
I made the ultra-douchebag move of assuming that because a certain female is a pro golfer, she is part of the LPGA
Deeply sorry for that. Titiya Plucksataporn is a Ladies European Tour player. I want to punch myself on the side of the head.

Apology accepted, dumbass!

Re: 2017 LPGA thread
Well, she was not number one at the time. This was 2016 at the Yokohoma.
I will stand in the fairway, I want to be out of your range.

Re: 2017 LPGA thread
Last weekend's Aberdeen Asset Ladies Scottish Open was won in heroic fashion by Columbia SC's own Mi Hyang Lee. So a hearty congratulations to Jfurr.

JULY 30, 2017 6:08 PM
IRVINE, SCOTLAND
Columbia resident Mi Hyang Lee took advantage of Hall of Famer Karrie Webb’s late double bogey to win the Ladies Scottish Open on Sunday for her second LPGA Tour title.
“I didn’t believe I got a win today,” said Lee, six shots back entering the round, making her comeback win the biggest on the LPGA Tour in 2017. “It was a really surprise for me.”
Originally from South Korea, Lee moved to Columbia to be closer to her coach, Puggy Blackmon, the director of golf for the University of South Carolina, where he previously served as coach.
Lee is a member at Blythewood’s Cobblestone Park Golf Club, the home course and practice facility to the Gamecocks men’s and women’s golf teams. It’s where she met Blackmon, the one-time instructor to PGA Tour stars David Duval and Stewart Cink and also the coach of PGA Tour veteran Kyle Thompson, a USC alum.
“She’s an incredible talent, and it’s fun to me to work with highly motivated players,” Blackmon told The State newspaper in 2014.
The 24-year-old Lee also won the LPGA Tour’s 2014 Mizuno Classic in Japan. On Sunday, Lee shot 6-under 66 to finish at 6-under 282 in the tuneup event for next week’s Women’s British Open.
After playing the front nine in 5-under 31 with six birdies and a bogey, Lee made eight consecutive pars before birdieing the last hole.
“It was really good practice for the British,” said Lee, who received a $225,000 first-place check. “I take a lot of confidence from this win.”
With the win, Lee moved from 34th to 19th on the LPGA Tour Official Money List with $568,013 and increased her career winnings to $2,228,680. She also earned 500 points toward the Race to the CME Globe standings and moved from 43rd to 21st in the race.
In 18 LPGA events this year, Lee has made 13 cuts and has two other top-five finishes.
A stroke ahead of Lee with two holes left at chilly Dundonald Links, Webb dropped a shot back with the double bogey on the par-5 17th after driving into a bunker and having to play out backward.
Needing an eagle to force a playoff with Lee, Webb closed with a birdie to tie for second with Mi Jung Hur.
Webb said she didn’t know she was two strokes behind because of the lack of a leaderboard on the final hole.
“It’s pretty bad to not have a leaderboard on the last,” Webb said. “That’s the first time I’ve ever been (at a tour event) that hasn’t had a leaderboard on 18. … We didn’t know if Mi Hyang had birdied or not, because there wasn’t like a loud cheer like she had.”
Lee also was confused on 18 without a leaderboard, thinking she needed to an eagle to tie Webb.
“I thought she’s going to win, so just I want to make the eagle,” Lee said.
Webb, tied for the third-round lead with Sei Young Kim at 6-under, had 73. Carlota Ciganda (70) and Cristie Kerr (72) tied for fourth at 4 under. Kim (75) tied for sixth at 3 under with Sun Young Yoo (71).

Re: 2017 LPGA thread
In-Kyung Kim's game left me with two lasting impressions:
1. How short some of her tee shots were
2. How good she is with her hybrids and fairway woods.
That little pip squeak has one heck of a game.

Re: 2017 LPGA thread
I think that today was an off day for her ballstriking, and those numbers are shorter than normal. Nevertheless she did not get rattled by having long approaches. Unlike most of us a-holes who get all in a huff whenever our tee game is compromised. The clutch shot on 17 to clear the hazard, it should be noted that Michelle faced the same shot. She was still several shots behind the lead and had been surging up to that point. If she was going to have any prayer of catching up she would need to be bold and play some risky golf. But no, the delicate little snowflake demurred and laid up instead and even had the gall to say she was proud of herself afterwards. Now I like to kid around and end a post a Trumpish "Sad!" but this time I really frickin mean it.

Re: 2017 LPGA thread
The current LPGA "major" championship has been reduced to 54 holes due to weather. The commissioner cited a wet, hilly course and not wanting caddies and their heavy bags taking spills.
Jesus Christ! Lightning is a hazardous condition. Gale force winds and falling tree limbs is a hazardous condition.
Now we are canceling rounds over potential slip-and-falls?

To be fair, they are in France, and the French are good at retreating.

I do not believe any men's major would be reduced to 54 holes. C'mon, commish, use that pair you were born with. Make the ladies play Monday and/or Tuesday if need be.

This was the best decision, Whan said, to “have the cleanest, fairest competitive round that’s still going to finish on a Sunday with somebody jumping from an airplane with a flag behind them.”
That last statement, which refers to the elaborate 18th green celebration that includes a parachutist, shows the importance to the sponsor of having a Sunday finish. No tournament on the LPGA schedule has more glitz and glamour than Evian, where there are galas and cocktail parties and fireworks that rival Disney World throughout the week. Evian rolls out the pink carpet here, and it’s lovely to see.
But, as one player put it, “it’s never been about golf here.”

Re: 2017 LPGA thread
I noticed earlier today that ESPN had a link to an article titled "Feng Shanshan leads..." and they have since switched it to "Shanshan Feng leads..."
Seriously what f'ing golf writer doesn't know who Shanshan Feng is? Hopefully some random editor changed the title thinking Shanshan was the last name, and it wasn't actually the golf writer.

This is not burger king you can not have it your way.

Almost all headlines are not written by whoever wrote the story, so more than likely the headline writer is not a golf fan.

Re: 2017 LPGA thread
Interesting situation developing in China, where the LPGA is currently playing. A number of Korean players shot good first rounds to position themselves on the leaderboard. However in round 2, despite favorable playing conditions, they all shot uncharacteristically over par. Considering the current state of Sino-Korean relations, it is quite obvious what is going on.

I have often wondered about the use of "sino" to designate China. Thanks to lb and Wikipedia, I finally know the answer.
Those who truly believe the tournament is being thrown by the Korean ladies for diplomacy, tighten up the chin straps on your foil hats.
