I've hacked off half my thumb

Post by JPJ » Thu Mar 24, 2016 8:22 pm

:facepalm

Thankfully that subject line is hyperbolic, but (while chopping parsley) I did manage to slice through part of my left thumb nail, the part that's still actually attached to the finger.

It's pretty uncomfortable and I'm meant to be playing in a Texas Scramble on Saturday, so I'm trying to be positive about it and hoping the lighter grip I'm going to be forced to use by this injury will be revelatory!

Good luck. What is a Texas scramble?

Sounds like something Trump is trying to build a wall to prevent.

"Texas scramble" to me suggests eggs, onions, peppers, some brisket maybe. Served up with some nice thick toast slices. Hashed browns.

JP ya really scared people with the title. Glad it's a recoverable situation. But what happened man?

You want to grip mainly with the last three fingers anyways, right.

It's a team format. You 'mericans probably have a different name for it.

Teams of four get 1/10 of combined handicaps, teams of three get 1/6.

All tee off then choose the best drive, then hit a ball each from that spot, and so on until the ball is holed. The team must use a minimum of three tee shots by each player.

1. Man up JP, you are only getting 1/10 of your handicap so you only need 90% of your fingers.
2. So a "Texas" Scramble is like "French" toast in the USA. Nothing Texan or French about either. The use of the territory in the name is to give it some pizzazz. People in England must think Texas is cool. It is not. Texas is the other arm pit of the USA.
3. Make sure the team uses each player's 3 drives early. You don't want to come down to the last 2 holes and be forced to use a player's drive. We once did that and our "player" hit his tee shot behind a barn.

Good luck. Typically drinking is encouraged in a Texas Scramble - Shiner or Pearl Beer.

To me you described a scramble.

[/img]Whatever. Have a picture...

It's not a particularly bad injury, but it's in just the right place to make a golf grip hard to achieve without pain.

I'm off to the back garden to try it out!

Whatever (again).

Glad to say the practice swings in the garden were surprisingly pain free, so I shall limit my grumblings to the players who withdraw at the last minute and the crappy weather we're due to get tomorrow.

Wrap it really tight with some medical tape. The part that will bother you is pressure change. Constant pressure will be less annoying.

At least that works for me. I have a terrible nasty habit of biting my nails and sometimes they get too short.

First hole, par 5, used the captain's drive, followed by his fairway shot which finished just off the green to the left, leaving about 30' to the hole.

I slotted it home with my putter!

18th, tough par 4, we were on the green in three, but above the hole about 35' feet. All three first putts were poor, and finished about 7'-8' short. I stepped up and dropped the bogey putt for a net par.

We scored 45 points and won by 1 point!

Woohoo!!

I put a t-shirt on the dog's head. Who doesn't do that? That's from when he had diarrhea the other day. I put it on him and he was like "This comforts me". So he kept it on for the next couple hours.

Woohoo??? You stiff upper lip Brits need to buy undershorts that are less tight. If you win you need to let loose ...

WOOOOHOOOOOOO!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D WE KICKED EVERYONE'S ASS THANKS MAINLY TO MY CLUTCH PLAYING. EVERYONE IN THE FIELD WAS EATING OUR DUST.

That is a proper American boast about winning.

Well done, pip pip and all that!
