What's your main driver swing thought?

Postby DougE » Sun Mar 12, 2017 12:23 pm

Everyone has swing thoughts. They often change from one thing to another depending on club, or the newest and latest tip you may have heard, or what worked last week, but what single thing do you always focus on/think of or use as your primary swing thought, with DRIVER in hand on the tee?

In my case, as I would expect from most everyone, there is more than just one thought, but if you can only give a one-thought answer, what would it be?

For me it would be path into the ball, which I focus on by picking a spot 6 inches behind and 3 inches outside the ball of which I then try my best to bring the clubhead inside of, on my path through the ball. My list of the things I try to remember to do when getting ready to tee off with driver in hand is much longer, but for right now and the past season for that matter, that has been my MAIN thought. What about you?

II try not to think, that is what causes most of my problems.
I will stand in the fairway, I want to be out of your range.

Shouldn't this topic be renamed to "what swing tip should I never use?"

3 thoughts:
1. Take the club back down the target line to prevent taking the club to the inside (my big flaw) - this is the same for all clubs
2. With driver (and 5W) have the sensation of taking the club straight up (again, trying to prevent bringing it to the inside)
3. New thought based upon my last lesson is to maintain my posture as the video showed I was moving in towards the ball slightly (but enough) to throw longer clubs (H, FW, D) off track.

All of the golf pros I have ever used have all told me that the golfer's worst enemy is thinking during the swing. I happen to agree with them.

Since I can't keep my brain absolutely empty, I try to concentrate on the one item that is least related to the actual swing: Posture.

When I was teaching my nephew how to play, I showed him the correct posture. He was 8 at the time, and he noticed "it kind of feels like I'm taking a dump". So I've come to call it my "taking a dump" posture. I try to maintain it through the swing.

If I'm thinking about anything else at all, odds are good that I'm not having a good round.
