How do you feel about Phil? Guy still gets ton of exposure despite having last won in 2013.jattruia wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2018 11:33 amYou're right, fandom is what it is. I guess i'm just really over this circle jerk every time this declining golfer hits a green in regulation.legitimatebeef wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2018 10:50 amNo they don't. We are talking about sports fandom. Not exactly a bastion of realism and rational thought.
Tiger, started to decline in 2009. Still did lots of good stuff as a declining golfer. I don't believe people should just drop their favorite sports people as soon as they begin their declines. That's too uncompromising, for this casual hack of a sports fan at least.

Re: 2018 PGA Tour Thread
You're really comparing the commotion that comes along with Phil entering a tournament to that of Tiger? Come on.
Re: 2018 PGA Tour Thread
Just wait until he hits a fairway with his driver.

I will stand in the fairway, I want to be out of your range.
Re: 2018 PGA Tour Thread
Haha! Won't matter if it's his fairway or an adjacent one, he'll be the favorite for the 2018 Masters.

Re: 2018 PGA Tour Thread
I was just asking about your opinion on Phil. Phil is his own phenomenon, of course he doesn't stir the same feelings as Tiger does. But he started declining a long time ago, yet still receives way more coverage than any other player who hasn't won in five years. Yes there is a comparison inplicit in my question, but really I'm just trying to find out more about you and your preferences.

I like Phil (and i don't DIS-like Tiger). But, i'd rather see the leaders right now, or the young guns on tour. I want to see JT, Ollie, DJ; the guys that are peaking right now. I don't really want to watch Phil or Tiger (or anyone for that matter) struggling to make the cut on a Friday afternoon.

Re: 2018 PGA Tour Thread
I tuned into watch Dustin at the Pebble Beach and let me say, he did not deliver. Shot a weak 72 to lose both the tournament and the head to head to Ted Potter. Johnston was launching rockets into the fairways and averaging 30-40 yards past Potter on every hole. Still lost by three, never really threatening all day. I guess I am just arguing that beyond just personal attractions, there are real and substantive reasons for people like Tiger being such a huge draw. It's not just that we are all gay for him. When you watch sports, you tend to hope for some excitement and compelling action. Dustin Johnson might have more golf talent in the world than anybody, but he has a tendency to no-show sometimes. It's kind of hard to routinely expect much from the guy as a result.jattruia wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2018 12:05 pmI like Phil (and i don't DIS-like Tiger). As for guys who are peaking right now here is a tip, don't sleep on Chez Reavie. The guy went T2, 2 in his last two tournaments: Pebble Beach and Waste Management. I don't have to tell you that these are not small-time events.

Also, Phil had a chance to win Pebble on Sunday! So please don't assume it's all Friday afternoon trunk slamming struggles with that guy.

Phil has been racking up top 5's; i'd actually like to watch him now. Also, he'll have his brother on his bag playing the lefty friendly Augusta National in 50 days. That sounds like drama and excitement right there. I'd much rather here about that than much else right now.

You need to temper your expectations! I don't really mean that obviously, just trying to point out that it's kind of a ridiculous notion. Of course you don't need to temper anything. We are all free to root for whoever, right? I am joking around of course. I understand where you are coming from. People can get annoying with their over the top fandom. You better not be including me in there though. I don't really make predictions or claims about Tiger other than he is an intense performer and entertaining to watch. I am fully accepting of the fact that he sucks ass at golf now.

I joke about Chez Reavie, but he's peaking right now. 2nd place in his last 2 starts, finished 7th at Riviera 2 yrs ago. He's my dark horse to steal this thing. Riviera favors no one.
Besides, Reavie is Mike Weir's twin bro and that dude won twice at the Riv.

YES! Always saw that resemblance too. Chez is like a less macho, less badass Mike Weir. I was sure he had to be from Canadia too. Does the name "Chez Reavie" not sound like that of a totally Canadian person?Duke of Hazards wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2018 2:06 pmI joke about Chez Reavie, but he's peaking right now. 2nd place in his last 2 starts, finished 7th at Riviera 2 yrs ago. Cautionary tale was my reaction. Be wary of taking rides in super exotic sports cars. I know the details are unknown and whatever, but I am just talking about basic crash safety of those caliber of cars being not that good.

I wonder how Chez would feel if he knew he was called a less macho, less badass Mike Weir. Thanks for the lolz.

Just heard Justin Thomas talking about 5-10mph winds and 55° and how "the ball doesn't go anywhere" in those conditions.

Whether any of us care to accept it or not, we are now, officially, the #1 Chez Reavie fan site on the internet.

Watching Tiger warm up. In awe. On the range at least, it is a magnificent golf swing.
