This is such a good song, and really all it is Bowie and Queen went into a studio, snorted a bunch of coke and literally just shit this track out off the cuff. True musical greatness. :school

Getting deeper into the McCartney back catalog. Now realizing that "RAM" is probably the best post-Beatles solo album. All Things Must Pass is wonderful and everything but it is ponderous and bloated, both content and production. Imagine is spotty and short on memorable tunes. Plastic Ono is better than Imagine but again, inconsistent effort. It was Paul above all who carried on the musical spirit of the Beatles. :school

been listening to

Smiths, Pixies, entire catalog
The Libertines, album from 2015
Paul McCartney Ram

The Beatles just put out a new remixed repackaged White Album and outtakes package. I am listening to the entire thing via my music subscription service. Some of the outtakes are supremely interesting. A lot of it is repetitive, and I am now tired of a lot of the original music. Songs like Birthday and Bungalow Bill more or less suck. Dirges like Helter Skelter or Guitar Gently Weeps are massively overrated. Then you have crap like Honey Pie which technically is a well crafted, catchy song, but at the end of the day, just sucks. On a so-called Beatles album at least. I guess I only really need like 5-6 songs from this album. But as a Beatles devotee I do enjoy the outtakes, the alternate version and the improv jams and what not. At one point George is caught on mic ordering a "lettuce, cheese, marmite sandwich and a coffee" for lunch--probably what passed for vegetarian fare in 1968.

On a recent trip to Athens GA I bought the new vinyl box set of The Glands which included a nice booklet with photos and comments from other artists such as Wayne White.

My favorite track of the moment. :puke

Def Leppard, do they suck or do they rock. I struggle with this question. The answer is complicated. Take this song. It sounds sort of transcendent, and big, maybe even spiritual. To my ears this sounds like a song about I'll always be there for you until the end of time kind of thing. But then you break down the lyrics and then it's literally just a song about the love of bangin groupies without the traditional constraints of a relationship.

Mostly I just dig that clean, hard Def Leppard sound, that Mutt Lange sound.

In a Violent Femmes phase now. I don't know why these tales of teenage blueballs are so compelling to me lately, as a 42 year old man.

Super Deep Cuts with the Beefster.

Mick Ronson was David Bowie's guitarist during David Bowie's finest work including Hunky Dory, Aladdin Sane and of course Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. Besides providing wonderful guitar playing, he also did the string arrangements. A true musical genius. The two of them co-produced Lou Reed's greatest work including "Walk on the Wild Side" and "Perfect Day". Post Bowie in the early 70s he attempted some solo records. I guess they never really took off but in my estimation there is some really good stuff therein. David Bowie is awesome and everything but he owes a lot of his success to Mick Ronson's talent. Fuckin shit. Very interesting career, then he died way too young. :fuckall He also played in Bob Dylan's touring band for a short time in the 70s, and co-produced John Cougar Mellencamp "Jack and Diane" a huge ass hit record.
