Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
Today's the last day of the month, so this is my best of February. And the subsequent putt that resulted from it would have been my best putt of the month if not for a couple inches.
Par 5, 9th hole, 215-yard 3W 2nd shot from a downhill lie (my least favorite type of lie) from wet/soft fairway, over hazard, onto green for my first realistic 1-putt attempt at eagle in quite some time. Maybe since last spring, actually. Sent off an awesome 40' eagle putt, up a steep slope, over a ridge and onto a nearly unstoppable downhill slope with the pin high up on that slope. I had the speed and line nearly perfect. Ball settled 2 inches from the hole for a tap-in bird.
Birdied the same hole yesterday too.

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
I don't recall anything great for the month, but I had a nice chip-in birdie from the left side of the green, nearly pin high (but on the far side, so lots of roll to the pin), with a sidewinder. I clipped the ball perfectly, landed it on my spot and watched it hit the slope, bounce right, start rolling towards the hole and finally nestle against the pin. Shake the flag a little and it's in.

I'm gonna go low this time...

Nice, Doug E. It's always a great feeling to be putting for eagle.

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
So true, even though Doug seems to think I hit Dr/wedge on all par 5s. I might be lucky if I see an eagle putt once every 10 rounds. And I usually can go for 2 to 3 par 5s a round if I hit good drives.Duke of Hazards wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2018 10:01 pmNice, Doug E. It's always a great feeling to be putting for eagle.
I guess that was another good sequence of shots in my last round.
I cut a driver perfectly on a dog leg right par 5. Hit 4i to 30'.
Then I ran the eagle putt 6' past and wound up making the birdie.
Keep it short stupid.
Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
So first time out this month but have my hole if not my shot. Qualifier, short par 5 (460 yards) and good wind behind me, but had my first par 5 eagle. Huge wind aided drive, must have been 280+, 6i to the green that almost hit the flag, sank a putt from 20 feet. Next hole was a short par 3 - 2 feet for a birdie. Not expecting to top those two holes anytime soon.

I've actually watched my friend go eagle eagle once. And it was the 2/1 variety. Oddly he shot a better score on the back 9 after blowing up his next couple holes on the front.

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
Unbelievable but almost did again today. More legit par 5 - 477, no wind. Driver, 5W to 7 feet. Putt just slide over edge of hole. I seem to really be swinging in mid-season form. For starters, after years of practice I seem to finally be hitting my driver and 5W with relative consistency. Unfortunately, my short game is still stuck in winter.

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
Impressive. As much as Doug thinks I murder the ball, I've never eagled a par 5 (other than a scramble where we played all 3 of my shots). I've had 3 1-putt eagles on par 4s though. Someone explain that?

Evidently,....you MURDERED the ball to get it to the green in the first place on those par 4s!jasonfish11 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 19, 2018 6:59 amImpressive. Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
Got it even a bit closer (by an inch) than the last one I bragged about earlier on this thread.
Friday the 13th. Par 3 6th, the signature hole at Worthington. 150 yds to pin, into a two club wind and the sun. Grabbed my Titleist AP3-718 5 iron, my typical 170+ yard club. The group behind us just pulled up to the tee for a little added pressure. Knew I hit it flush and dead on the target line, but as it bore so cleanly through the 15-20 mph wind, I felt sure it was going to fly right over the flag and even be over the green. Looking into the sun, couldn't see it land.
2" from blowing through a few hundred bucks in the bar. Phew! Dodged a bullet there.
Still aceless after so many close calls.

Describe Your Best Shot of the Month - MAY
We were scouting the locations for our Senior Open Amateur tournament at the end of August. On May 31 we were playing the Sundance course near Elk Rapids/Charlevoix. I was playing with our local golf legend, Jim Briegel. 93 years old, member of the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame, and still a heck of a player.
Hit my tee shot into a fairway bunker on the #2 hole. About 140 to the green. Hit 7 iron on the nose and ended up pin high. 2 putts for par. I felt good. Even though a fairway bunker shot is not impossible, at our level of ability it is never a slam dunk. As a post script, I hit GIR with two more fairway bunker shots that round. Maybe they are slam dunks!?!?

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
This past Monday, during my best round ever of 71 (+1), the 2nd birdie came on a 440yds par 4, downhill. A good tee shot to the middle of the fairway left me with 205 yards to the flag which was towards the back of the green. I nutted a 5 wood with a slight fade and the ball stopped about 3 feet behind the hole, leaving me with a downhill but fairly straightforward putt. This led to a back-to-back birdie after I used the same 5 wood on the previous hole, 175 yds, playing 185 uphill, leaving a 15 footer from pin high. Incidentally, that 5 wood is the club that netted me my only hole-in-one so far. Love that club!

How about a sequence of shots - yesterday shanked a wedge from about 35 yards -hit the green but then rolled off. Chipped the next one in to save par - hate this game.

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
At least you saved par. I hate rolling in an 80 footer or chipping in for an "8". Yes, an "8" is better than a "9" but really, who needs a great shot when it is woefully too late.

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
I like when that sort of thing happens. Maybe it's because I'm too dumb to know any better but I like standing over my 6th, 7th, 8th shot and trying to will it in the hole. Anyways it's not appropriate for me to consider any such situation as beneath me, being as I am basically pond scum in the universe of golf.
Build a bridge and get over it.
Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
I make a lot of long putts for bogey - can't explain it.
For a long time my best shot ever was a hole out from 45 yards. I literally picked a spot about 5 yards short and 5 feet right of the hole and said if I landed it there the ball should end up pretty close. I hit the spot exactly and the ball rolled and broke sharply exactly as I thought it would and died in the hole. That gave me a 6 for a DB.

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
It is one day early but I know I will not play today. My last hole at the most recent tournament presented a quandary. I had started out shaky but righted the ship somewhat as the day cruised along. Since we use a shotgun start, my last hole was #12, a 150 yard par 3. I wasn't sure where I stood in relation to my personal goal of "79 or lower". Starting in the middle of a nine always makes it hard for me to track my score.
The hole location was back left and behind a bunker. Could I bail to the right and try to 2-putt from long range or get it up & down if I missed the green? Would a bogey 4 get me to 79 or 80? If I smacked my tee ball into the bunker face, that brought all kinds of possibilities into play. Would I be risking a "79" going for the flag?
I decided to just go for it and deal with whatever resulted. Hit my most solid iron shot of the day, lasered right at the flagstick. Cleared the bunker and disappeared from view. I was a bit disappointed to find it 15 feet past the hole rather than 15 inches but an easy 2-putt got me 78. As I mentioned in another post, I lost by 12 shots (net) but at least I got my under 80 round.

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
Had my first legit eagle on a par 5 today. Had one over the winter but I was playing the senior tees due to the conditions. Driver/FW to 20 feet and made the putt. Hole is listed as 477 - I'm sure the tees were up a little, but this one is legit.
