Kind of at a stopping point with the bathroom, but had the day off so that the countertop people could come and template.

Decided to go play 9 holes before picking my son up from school.

Shot 42 but was 2 over through 8. I hit the ball pretty well with my irons, but pretty poorly from the tee. To be 2 over through 8 when my approaches were from the following is pretty good.
#1 - 135
#2 - 195
#3 - 171 (damn near flew a 7i in the hole for my first hole in 1)
#4 - 186
#5 - 184 (put it to 15')
#6 - 117
#7 - 157
#8 - 250 (well this was for a green under regulation, the eagle chip looked at the hole as it rolled 6" past)
Keep it short stupid.

Just think how good you will be after taking another three months off.
I will stand in the fairway, I want to be out of your range.

Last round of 2018. Weather won't cooperate over the next few days but today and yesterday were decent. Shot a 76, which sounds good but the course is short and the reality is on a big boy course it would be around 80. Still, with the very soggy fairways, at times it felt like a big boy track.

DougE was out playing today and shot a nice 79. No doubles, no sixes and a birdie. Right after finishing he packed his body in ice and started making plans for January. There is no quit in that guy.

Doug is in Florida, not enough ice to be packed in. He is probably tossed into a beyond hot tub, or was a nice dinner for a gator.

Shot an 82 today, which is my best score to date. Also had personal bests in FW% (79), GIR%(56), # par or better(11), etc. 2nd consec round not losing a ball.

Been hitting the ball quite well, and my putting is decent now. My short game remains the glaring weakness, just needs work. It's no longer horrible, but I still lose several shots/round with bad pitches/chips.

Left yesterday. got back from FL today. Pulled in the driveway at 1 pm. Unloaded the car, put everything away and went to the course. Teed off at 2pm for a quick nine. Elbow killed me, shoulder sore, 45 degrees out, cart path only, just drove 18 hours, and I'm all packed in ice again now, but heck, I shot a 38! If it doesn't rain too hard tomorrow, I may throw on the new cart cover and try to squeeze in a final 18 of 2018. Only tomorrow, I'll have to remember to pop three Advil BEFORE I play.

Take it easy - you don't want to turn this into something long term.

Had a nice finish to the year today although this game totally messes with you. Went to range last Wednesday and the played Friday - very disappointed in the round as my swing was really bad. I did have 7 GIRs, but only because I hit 6 of 7 wedge approaches.

Today was totally the opposite - 12 GIRs, 4 of the misses were pretty close. Nice 76 to end year, could have been 2-4 shots lower if my putting had been closer to normal. Also, 11 of 13 fairways - that's something I don't do. And a few were very long for a normal day, much less on a day where 15-30 yards of roll was missing. Was really in a groove. Of course, whatever I was doing today will likely leave before next weekend.

Sadly, that describes all of our games. Wouldn't it be nice to actually know one was going to play well or even great the next time out? Nope. We all may have a great streak in us but deep down we all know that good things always end.

One of those places where I need an attitude adjustment so I'll get it out there. Played twice this weekend - two courses, very similar course ratings.
Shot 77 on Saturday, +6, and was pleased. Shot 78 yesterday, +8 and was unpleased. What's the difference:

Saturday was a course that I don't think fits my game, I hit 10 fairways of 13, and I finished +6 after starting +3 on first two holes (and +4 after 4). Saturday only 5 fairways, putrid wedge shot into a hazard, another putrid shot into hazard (but ball skipped through water onto green where I then 3 putted). Round was only only saved by holing several 5 footers and 4 putts over 10 feet. Oh, and best two shots of the round were punch shots from under trees that found green, one turned into birdie.

I used to do this thing (from hearing it on Golf Channel) where I made myself write 2-3 positive thoughts after each round - thinking this needs to be a New Year's resolution.

I played Tuesday. It was "winter perfect": 50 degrees, calm, and partly sunny. Yes, the fairways were a swamp and the greens fuzzy. Who cares, I was walking the golf course and swinging a club.

Scene looking back at #10 tee. Note how green everything is except the trees.

I haven't played too much lately, only 15 rounds last year, 8 in 7 days while in Palm Springs for a week but only 2 since July.

I finally broke 90 for the first time, in a long time.
I shot 88.

I just looked back, it was June of 2014 since I broke 90... WTF... that's sad.

1 triple, 2 doubles, a stack of bogeys- 8 bogeys, 7 pars, but had 2-3 really good birdie chances, that I choked on.

Secret?
Gym workout the night before was so rough, i could barely walk, sitting down is almost impossible, and getting in and out of my lifted truck, a nightmare... so too stiff to play my normal game :)

That, or strengthening my grip on my drive eliminating my twirly bird slice on my drive.

I took some photos, a virtual tour of the course... here is the unedited album of photos

My 2 cents, if that one video of the guy in the tee shirt and jeans (really? tee shirt and jeans?) is you. You're coming off the ball way too inside on the backswing, consequently coming from way too outside on the downswing.

FYI, I signed up for the Grint. Friend me. DougE in Frederick MD.

That's actually one of my friends, only golfs a couple of times a year. Funny thing is, I recorded that, without him knowing, and it was his worse drive of the day... like AWFUL. He actually had been driving the ball really really well, especially for him, even was making me feel bad about my driving and I was driving it well :)

Shot a 61 Gross today in our 4 man scramble.
55.15 after handicap, we had a 3 way card off for 5th place, but lost on the back 9, we shot 30 on the back, but someone shot 9 under 27 on the back to take 5th and the last paying spot.

Shooting 11 under was pretty good I think. We were 3 strokes from winning, but I dont know how we could have done that.
I put us in eagle putting distance 2 times, and we made both of them somehow, makes up for a couple of birdies that were just pars.

6th out of 21 teams isn't bad.

I was on call, so 20 mins before the shotgun start i got the nod.
I really enjoyed playing with this group, they want me to join their 4some in the men's club from now on, so I must have done well :)

It was fun, especially helping to make those Par 5s a little shorter. I think we went birdie eagle eagle birdie on the 4 par 5s.
Will share the blog post with photos etc after i write it tonight.

2 man scramble saturday for my other men's club.

PS: I wonder how we are supposed to tell Grint its a scramble, it looks like its my best score now etc... i marked it as practice, but it isn't the same.

I figured as much. It sent me updates from your round. For the first few holes, I thought you were having the round of your life.

Anyway, looks like 'practice round' is the only way you can log it. From their FAQ ....

Hi Mike, good morning

Thank you for contacting us.

What you can do is track the Scramble Score and upload it as a Practice Round so it doesn’t count towards your Handicap.
Just make sure you mark the Score as a Practice Round before you start tracking the Score. On the Round Setup Screen.

Hopefully this helps.
Let us know anything.
Regards.

I don't use the Grint, but I assume logging it even as a practice round would mess up your stats.

Yes, it sure did mess it up :P
Sucks... i like to be able to look back and check it out.
I'm asking their support to see if they are planning on adding that feature soon.
I think its a big deal.

I wondered what everyone might think seeing my shoot 11 under - dirty sand bagger :P
My first hole was a par 3, and it almost rolled into the water... I was thinking, these guys might kick me off the team before the end of the first hole.
My first drive barely made the ladies tees.
