I love Rick Steves. Unapologetically anti-fascist, liberal, pro-marijuana. In 2024 there are no more punk rock rebels left. Rick Steves will have to do.
Re: What did you shoot today?
Since BK is suffering, I’ll start posting for the new year. Nice day today, around 60, but heavy winds. I’ve really been struggling lately and have been working a lot on my irons. I think when my back got hurt last year I developed a new move that isn’t good. Anyway, starting to hit the ball better. Yesterday (NYE) was my best day in some time with 9 GIRs. As fate would have it, I didn’t get up and down once in the other 9 holes, although with the roughness of our greens in winter I really don’t let it get to me.
Well today was different. First hole scramble par, 2nd hole muffed the first chip but hit the second to two feet. Third hole scramble par, fourth hole made 15 footer to save bogey, and then finally hit a green on #5 and then downed a 50 footer for birdie. 5 holes, 5 one putts - finished the front nine with 11 putts, the two closer birdie tries just missing and having two more scramble saves. During the back nine I was wondering if I should miss the green intentionally to get more one putts.
Finished the front +1/37, but the back didn’t go well as multiple tee shots led punch outs. Finished 80/+8, best round in a while. Hoping this is a start of an improvement cycle.

To pile onto BK's suffering, Jan 2 saw the second round of the year - only 363 more days to go.
Actually was supposed to be working but a buddy invited me to a bucket list course nearby. Temps were in the low 50's but it got cold as the round wound down. Shot somewhere between and 83 and 89. The issue was that the greens were lightning fast. From hearing the pro/starter talk, they had gotten faster than they wanted and now with the weather can't get them to grow again. I know one time before I played and they said the greens were rolling at 11, so these were at least a 13. It got ridiculous near the end, you would tap the ball and hope you were right and you never were. Turns out that winter greens, even on the a top exclusive course, are still winter greens which are impossible to read to depend upon. So I decided that if I was in normal two putt range, it was a two putt regardless of the result. Hence the 83 or 89.
No golf today, two rounds for the weekend with temps again in the low 50's. Next two weeks are cold even for here, so that might be it for a little while.

The current selection of emojiis sucks.

Day 4 round #3 - a little chilly at the start, probably mid-forties but by the third hole the stocking cap was gone. Actually got kind of warm on the back 9, must have been 50+.
Shot a reasonably solid 80, a shot above my target for the tees I played but given the lack of distance with the temps okay. Five nice up and downs, never more than 3 feet out. Irons were better but pushed too many right in my attempts to eliminate the left hooks. Also the duck hooks showed up for 3 straight drives - those and a fubar wedge were the only reason it wasn't a great score. Did really past two drivers on the last two holes - who was that at the end.

Day 5 round 4 - best round in months, 78 with 11 GIRs. Only issue was two duck hooks with driver which spent most of the round on the bench. However, one of the hooks hit a tree and bounced back into the fairway, so a decently struck hybrid and chip saved par.
Probably the last round for two weeks due to work, travel, and cold

Re: What did you shoot today?
My trip out of town was cancelled due to weather so I got to play round 5 today. Much colder than I normally would play, probably mid to low forties for most of the round. I actually wore my golf jacket for the first 14 holes - I almost never wear it past the range due to it being bulky.
Stellar front nine, +2/38 and with a kick in birdie and two of the bogeys being just a few feet off. Back 9 was a disaster - 3 bad drives, missed 3 out of four wedges, missed 3 of 4 short putts - 44 - ouch!
Did feel like a bad a small breakthrough. One of the things I've been thinking lately is I'm using my hands too much. With the golf jacket on my swing was restricted and I could focus on just body rotation. Worked pretty well except for the wedge misses.

Planning on a sim workout today, not sure which course I'll play. I'm jealous of those that can play right now.

Go ahead, have fun with your snowless golf and garage simulators. Don't worry about me.
Re: What did you shoot today?
Impressive craftsmanship BK. Round 6 today - warmer than yesterday as the sun was out but much more soggy, probably because of a frost delay. Yes, frost in low country SC. There will probably be a state of emergency declared later today.
Mixed round today - 80 not a bad score with 8 girs but frustrated that ball contact wasn't what is should be and a few too many bad shots. Also frustrated by winter greens - had at least four putts take strange turns between contact and the hole, including one big breaker that looked like it was going past the hole and suddenly stop in a two foot span an inch in front of the hole.
I think my PR for rounds in January-February is 12, maybe 14. With slightly warmer weather coming the next two weeks I think I can smash it.
@bkuehn1952.2 - we have a fair number of snowbirds who visit for 1-2 months this time of year.
