Round #7 today (actually 7.5 after a late 9 last week). Only in the 50’s and very damp with a 2-3 club wind in your face for a chunk of the day. Much colder than it was supposed to be. Off to a bad start, +4 after 5. Then a momentous decision - I’d playing with some Callaway Chrome soft balls that I was given as a gift. I put the last ball away and put my regular Bridgestone in play. 8 straight pars, then a not bad bogey. However, on #15, the duck hook comes out of nowhere. I re-teed and hit a good drive and solid 5W (par 5) to have an easy wedge in to get my DB. But I chilly dipped it. Okay, snowman coming. But another chilly dip and then a flop into the sand, and instead ended with a 10. Recovered to have two nice pars on 16 and 17, then blasted a drive on the difficult #18. From which I hit a 9i into the water for another DB - 84.

Cold week coming up - will barely reach 40 until Friday.

January ended with 7 rounds and 2 nines.

February has started with round 8 and 9 - absolutely terrible 86 yesterday. Three DB's on the back nine. Totally out of sorts.

Today was just a little bit off - slightly missed putts, too many missed irons, etc., but then was more solid on the last four holes with a chip in birdie on 18 to shoot 80. Not great since I was a tee box forward, but much better.

Nice recovery. Tomorrow I head pot for the first time since before Christmas. Course will be soggy.

How did it go? None of our courses are clear enough from snow and are either frozen or like a sponge.

The course was in pretty good shape for this time of year. The temps around here have been well below average for weeks. We had about 11” of snow early January and has been tough to melt. Course opened last Saturday.

Played pretty well overall. 85. Putting was decent. Hit several hooks off the tee. I’m good with that. Next foreseeable day could be Friday. :D

Rounds 10 and 11 and 3rd 9 this weekend.

Yesterday was a very disappointing 80. Dumped an easy wedge into the water on #4 for DB, then bladed a 7i on #5 to hit my first GIR, albeit 70 feet from the hole. With the 3 putt, I was +5 after 5. I was still +5 after 15 and easily could have been 2 strokes better. Then had very ugly DB on #16 (par 3) and then a bogey on #17. Wanting to shoot 80, I hit two decent shots on 18 but ended in the rough. A medium size gator was 15-20 feet away. As I didn't like my drop options, I chose to move my pushcart between me and the gator and play the shot. Nice chip to 3 feet under a different sort of pressure.

Today was my best round in forever, a 75 albeit a tee closer than usual which is worth about a shot. Even better, it was in a four ball tournament. Most solid round in forever. Unfortunately it was a gross tournament and it was me and my partner, two 5-7's versus a +1 and an 8. We lost badly as the +1 shot 69 with 5 birdies.

Sounds like your season is humming along. I have heard Bermuda, prior to the growing season, is a very difficult surface from which to hit, especially irons and articularly wedges. Despite some early season issues, that 75 in a competition is outstanding.

I can't say that I've experienced that in the fairways, but I won't be afraid to use it going forward. There's definitely a big difference in difficulty in the rough - it's totally inconsistent and really makes any kind of short game shot much more difficult. If you don't over seed the greens, it becomes super fast once it goes dormant. Greens that usually run 7-8 might suddenly be 10-11 on slopes that weren't for that speed. Big issue in TN. As you can see, I've become a big student of Bermuda grass the last 7 years.

Winter greens are still an issue with over seeding. The rye is slower and doesn't break as much. There's spots of Bermuda peeking through. No matter how hard they try, and our greens are usually in very good condition, the winter greens aren't consistent. Case in point, one of the bogeys yesterday I bailed right and had about 75-80 feet to the pin downhill. I decided to chip instead of putt from off the green, thinking that in match play I needed a par and I'd either get the speed right or go 15 feet by for an uphill par putt. Chip took off and then stopped on the downslope, 15 feet from the hole. Then the putt didn't quite make the hole. Both of those go racing by in normal conditions.

Still, I'm playing in February and my NJ buds are not.

Rounds 12-14 this weekend. Should be able to get 2-3 more before the month ends. Mediocre scores as I hit enough greens and saves, but had too many balls in the water to offset the good. 82 and 81, then 86 on a solo round yesterday which was post heavy rain and in +20 mph winds. While the conditions were tough, frustrated by my continuing lack of ability in high winds - way too many penalties on tee shots.

Well I am up to -0- for 2025, which probably ties me with everyone except @GBOGEY and @CeeBee .
