Traveling to Pennsylvania today for work. It’s cold and gray. Really sucks. Need to get back home and complain about the daily high only being 48.

Thinking about you guys all huddled up. Because yesterday I was having the polar opposite experience. It was one of those California dreamin', perfect days. It is hard to feel too joyful knowing that friends and countrymen are fuckin freezing.

Things went south very soon after I posted about how nice it is over here. I am sitting here with no power. We are not under wildfire threat at the moment. But it looms. On second thought living here is a pain in the ass.

Just got power back after a day and a half. The hardest part of losing power is trying to manage the food supply. Yesterday morning determined, I went to the corner store and brought home 32 lbs of ice and packed a bunch into the fridge. The rest I can get around. Battery banks for phones and USB devices, and gas for heat and cooking. This house has a silly gas powered fake fireplace hearth, which can be setup with AA batteries to function without AC power. That helped immensely, as it gets chilly overnight.
At the same time dealing with a dog with upset stomach. We were up all night pooping. All the while I am just trying to be grateful to not be affected. This seems to be a major historical event in LA. Obviously is always the case with wildfire, but I am still reeling from how suddenly and quickly it all happened. Expecting things to be quite different going forward, politically, economically, culturally. LA has just lost a lot of its appeal.

FWIW the recent weather has put my January/February record shattering on hold. The average January high here is 59 - we've seen that about 3 times and haven't hit 50 for at least straight 10 days. The courses have been closed since Tuesday and are hoping to open by Tuesday this week, but my guess is Wednesday. There was still a lot of snow on the courses from the 2-4 inches we got last Wednesday. This has been worse than a hurricane / tropical storm. Those pass in 24-48 hours.

I have reached a point in my life where I now hate switching to daylight saving time. I don't care about the extra hour of daylight or whatever. Maybe because I am now old and have lived through so many of these, but it just feels increasingly deceptive and pointless every year. Literally just messing with the clocks in an attempt to trick ourselves into experiencing more day time. Feels like some annoying person's silly little "life hack" writ nightmarishly large.

Got to agree with you beef. They should stop stuffing around and just make it permanent.
