Jesus, who runs a fake punt in the pro bowl?
That coach should have been fired from his regular coaching job for that call.

My favorite part of the story is Moorman talks about all of his jerseys that he has framed, that is the only one he has framed with the front of the jersey showing. It has flecks of Taylor's facemask embedded in the shoulder along with a hole from the hit.
I will stand in the fairway, I want to be out of your range.

Re: Random youtube thread
I have on MSNBC, which has been checking in on the launch intermittently with plans to cover it when it happens. But there may be a delay. Evidently there are some major winds aloft which could be an issue. They are still moving ahead with the countdown as of now though.
Re: Random youtube thread
That launch was the most awesome thing I have seen in awhile. Watching the two booster rockets blow off exactly to the planned moment, then literally come back to earth and LAND on their target pads, on their feet, simultaneously, side by side, was like watching a futuristic science fiction movie. I was blown away. I am still sitting here amazed. I truly believe we will be landing on other planets within the next 20 years. Hope I am still around to see it.

Re: Random youtube thread
Yeah I admit that has to be one of the more amazing things I've seen.
My dad texted me to state how amazing it was for him and he was an engineer on the original space shuttle back in the 80s. He mentioned that returning boosters like that was just a pipe dream back then.

I have to concur also. It was just incredible, and the live picture of Starman in the Telsa, with the left elbow hanging out was so cool too! It happened just like in the animation... and in the dreams of many, I am sure.
Does anyone know what happens to the main core? Did it land on the drone ship? Even if it didn't, the sight of the two boosters landing side by side was... out of this world! I found myself yelling a big YES and clapping when it happened...

I'm gonna go low this time...

Well, it's good to hear I wasn't the only one blown away by this. Thank you Fish and SJD for expressing your thoughts, which I am happy to hear were similar to mine. Now I don't feel like the only nerd here.

Re: Random youtube thread
Pretty sweet. When I showed my wife the mockup video from SpaceX, yesterday, she was like 'WTF... is that real?' I think the idea of launching a car into space seemed a bit offputting to some. Then she watched today and was blown away.
This guy Musk is pretty visionary. He doesn't seem to be constrained in the same way that most humans are. Like this new company he started about a year ago, hadn't even heard of it until he did the whole wacky flamethrower promotion.

Yeah, Mars is cool and all, but for a southern Californian, this might be more exciting.

Re: Random youtube thread
Awesome concept. Would love to see it accomplished. In addition to CA, The Boring Co already is working on permits here in MD. I might just drive into DC more often if the traffic goes away! I'm only 35 miles away, but only go there when my arm is totally twisted by my wife. It really is an interesting city, with so much to see, but I just can't deal with the traffic. So consequently, hating traffic as much as I do, I have only been to DC once since we moved here 2 1/2 years ago. (And one other time by accident, when I got caught up in the wrong lane in heavy traffic on my way back from the airport.)
Just think, only 150 years ago we traveled by horse and wagon. If Musk's Boring Co. plan gets to fruition in 25-50 years (or even less), the progress in transportation in under 200 years would be literally mind-numbing to someone from 1875. And let's not forget the progress in Space exploration over the last 60 years. Now think about a society on a planet billions of miles away. One where that civilization is just a few hundred thousand years ahead of ours on Earth. It's then pretty easy to comprehend and accept some of the unexplained UFO stuff that has been sighted over our earth. Just a little something I think about from time to time when I get in one of those 'what's-it-all-about?' moods.

Re: Random youtube thread
I am a little surprised at all the excitement. Just imagine how excited we'll all be if the day ever comes when someone launches a rocket containing actual human people, and transports them onto an actual celestial body, such as the moon. That would be rad.
Serious though, I am not trying to poo-poo anyone's excitement. I get it. I am the one who is dead inside. I used to love astronomy, and read Carl Sagan books and shit. I read all about yesterday's launch but nothing about it moved my space needle. The navigable booster rockets is pretty cool I guess. But launching a thing into outer space seems kind of old hat. I thought we had out there probes that have already left the solar system or whatever.
I'll just sit down in the corner now and wait to hear why I am categorically, diametrically wrong here.

Re: Random youtube thread
So this was step 1 in getting another person to the moon, and potentially getting someone to Mars.
Other than that I kind of agree with you.
