'19-'20 Winter Support Group Thread

Post by legitimatebeef » Tue Dec 17, 2019 5:12 pm

Darkness is hitting hard this year. A gloom covers all. The grass may still be green but the cold feels damper, and worse than it ought to. Out on the course, the turf keeps getting soggier all the time. Better than snow I guess.

I developed a good tan over the summer but it is completely gone now. Skin is pale and ashy. No joke, I cannot take the sight of my own chickeny legs so I stopped wearing shorts at the gym altogether. Seasonal disorder is a foregone conclusion at this point. I am trying to self-medicate with caffeine, up to two cups of tea a day now. Soon I might have to graduate to the hard stuff.

Well, I'm sorry for you, but glad to have your company in this SAD club. I'll stand up and start the meeting:

"Hi. My name is Doug and I'm SAD."

(This is where you all say, "Hi, Doug.")

People are supposed to share their struggle with the group. That is the whole point you knuckleheads.

I have been so flat lately, I am not even holiday-indulging in sweets, or alcohol. Haven't had any egg nog, in fact, I haven't had any nog, period.

The three days I know I have never played: Christmas Day, my wife's birthday and our anniversary. Of course, the birthday is in February so the weather has never cooperated. The anniversary is in mid-November and up to this point I have not been tempted.

Christmas Day is predicted to be in the mid-40's after 48 hours of above freezing temps. :bawl I can't do it, can I?

If the course is open and you have nowhere else you NEED to be, why not? There probably won't be a pace of play issue on Xmas. You can be done in no time. Probably wouldn't even be missed. Go for it.

My dad played bayhill the day I was born. I was born around 4am he had an 8:30 tee time (was a member there then). At 7 both my mom and I were sleeping so he just headed out with his brother to play.

When he told me that story my wife was sitting next to me and 8 months pregnant. She gave me a look and said "I'd kill you."

You absolutely can. We are living in a post-religious world my friend. Occasions like Christmas are now fully debased. Christmas is profane, a heathen celebration of commercialism and materialism. I understand that casting off a lifelong tradition will require a big leap of faith but I encourage you to go for it. I promise that the ground will not open up and swallow you.

The solstice snuck up on me. I didn't realize until late yesterday, that I can now look forward to a literal brighter tomorrow. :up

Going bonkers here. 3rd day in a row with no golf. Still snow on the ground, though some turf is showing in places. Sun is out. Light wind, but only about 35* for the high. 11:30 tee time tomorrow. 55* and cloudy expected. Will the snow clear in time?

Holy crap! 69* forecast for Saturday. Wow. The masses will be out in force.

60s here too and I am of course dreading it. Golf is completely out of the question. It is the general rabble that is going to piss me off. Bunch of generic dude bros in the streets wearing shorts and polos yelling and being stupid. Yep that is what goes on in New York City whenever it is nice out.

:nope Nope. It didn't. Course stayed closed all day.

1:10 tomorrow was the first available tee time. I booked a threesome. 65* expected. It's gonna be packed. This already sucks. Guaranteed we don't finish before dark.

Played in a charity event today out in Yucaipa. Was 37 degrees at the shotgun start. There was some sort of icy glaze on the fairways. Short game showing some signs of life.

That is pretty darn cold for you sunshine loving Californians. What did you wear? Ski parka, mittens, electric boot warmers?
