It was a great chip, but blown a little out of proportion. He drove it into the fairway bunker, and pulled it out of there before hitting over the green.

Re: The Tiger Thread
I will confess, I read the "failing" New York Times. It's very good reporting and shit but they don't know jack about a) popular music 2) sports. Their blind spots in these areas are laughable. Here is a perfect example.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/06/opin ... ament.html
I'm not really trying to single out the NYT actually, but rather the whole current narrative about Tiger, that he's human now, no longer a soulless robot. He has matured. Now he acknowledges his fans. Now he looks happy on the course.
Motherfuckers are projecting. Seeing what they want to see to reinforce their precious narrative. Tiger was always human. I don't know about you people, but I always saw it. Was the guy ever not appreciative of the support he receives? I've been reading his blog since the mid-00s, and he has always expressed appreciation. And aside from those periods of trying to play through back pain, Tiger has always seemed like he was having the time of his life out there. That is why people watch. The guy lives to compete and it comes through the TV screen.

Tiger been struggling in major championships for a long time now, going back to YE Yang. Now, he is picking up where he left off. He should feel fortunate for the opportunity the bastid.

Re: The Tiger Thread
I am looking forward to this week's "U.S. Open" (of golf). I was going to make a thread about it but let's face it, I am really just hyped for Tiger Woods. Ok so based on current form he will probably have an indifferent round 1 followed by a sharp round 2 followed by a half-good, half-bad weekend play, eventually finishing T21 or whatever. So what. This is the normal now. Just being "appreciative" to watch the guy play and swing fast and all that shit. Yeah that's right. Us Tiger fans have now become sad losers. Not even really hoping for wins, just respectable showings. Don't be so quick to condemn. There will come a day when Rickie has gotten old and sad too. Your time is coming, quicker than you think.

Re: The Tiger Thread
Obviously, I'm rooting hard for Tiger, but this week, if it's not in the cards for him---and I know this will grind your gears Beef---but, I really want Phil to get a US Open on his resume. Were it not for Tiger, he would have been the best of the era to play the game. Frankly, I feel his accomplishments should be more recognized, since there are very few who have reached that level, ever. He has been overshadowed by the big cat his entire career and at this point in his life, I want to see a great ending to a HOF career. And nothing would be more fitting than to do so at Shinnecock, where he got a bad break in '04 at the Open on Sunday afternoon. 17th hole in a greenside bunker, with a very likely shot at winning, but ultimately ended up 2nd to Goosen as a result of a stone behind the ball in the bunker. And he didn't complain when asked about it. In fact he never mentioned it. Instead his response was, "I shouldn't have hit it in there in the first place."
If it comes down to Tiger and Phil on Sunday though, I'm rooting Tiger.

That's right Doug. Just say no. To Phil. Is what I say. That guy paid almost a million bucks back to the feds. No standup person that I know has ever had to do such a thing. And I am willing to bet that was the result of them being lenient with him. Pickleson.

Re: The Tiger Thread
The word on Tiger Woods is that he can't drive for shit. Yet on Firestone, universally regarded as a tough, narrow course, he has won eight times. As like three different versions of himself. Go figure.

Re: The Tiger Thread
Is anyone sick of Phil Mickelson crap lately? Phil and his dress shirts, Phil playing field hockey on the green, Phil forgetting (other) basic Rules of Golf, and now more crap about his dumb dress shirts. AND now all this made-for-tv Tiger match fake hype. A whole lot of extra curricular bullshit in other words. If Tiger had not come back to the tour this year, I would be so checked out right now, Jesus.

That new Phil commercial might have worked on all of you but it's not going to work on me.

Re: The Tiger Thread
I have this feeling tiger goes really low today. Something like 62 or 63. I wouldn't put money on that, just an odd feeling.

Based on Fish's foresight I have now made an enormous wager. Maybe not a pecuniary wager but an emotional one.

It's not over yet. Old people need a little more time to get into the swing of things.

So I was going to watch the back 9. Decided to go to the range and work on my golf swing. Nostradamus I am not. Although I could have taken a page out of his book and just predicted something vague.

Re: The Tiger Thread
Just caught up on Tiger news. It's clear to me now that he did not prep for Bridgestone. Carnoustie took a lot out, and had to be a bitter stinging defeat. He is scaling back in order to make it through the final stretch of the season. This week was essentially practice for next week. An over the hill Tiger's gotta economize these days. Expect some sharper play next week.

Re: The Tiger Thread
Thinking about how well he has played in the few tournaments he's been in this year, I'm encouraged, but worried the clock is ticking. Certainly, he is not like the Tiger of 10-15 years ago, but his game is better than most of the field's on a pretty regular basis. IMO, right now he is on a similar level to guys like Kyle Stanley, or Mark Leishman, or Charlie Hoffman. All very good players who get in the mix a lot, but not superstars like JT, DJ, Rory, Ricky, etc. who seem to be somewhere on the first page of the leaderboard at literally every event. Tiger has been close with 4 top 10s this year while being in the mix more often than that. He's only missed one cut. Most of the present day superstars have missed at least one. (Cough, cough, Jordan Spieth cough cough.)
Not that he would consider it, but I really wish he would go see Butch, just to tweak a few things. He is close on his own, but another set of extremely accomplished eyes and suggestions could be enough to get him over the hump into pure greatness again. He's just so stubborn about listening to anyone else.
