Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
Nice eagle 3. I am also a bit ambivalent when faced with a sub-450 "par 5". As I age, I appreciate shorter par 5's but when it dips below a reasonable number, I can't get too excited.
Let's Play 36
GHIN Handicap: 7.8 … 9.2 … Let’s just say I am around a 14!

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
Opening shot of our tournament on 7/26. We started on #17 (shotgun start) 170 yards over water to a back pin. Wind in our face. The vegetation growing on the shore near the green obscured the target (note: I find this situation uncomfortable - not able to see the green).
I hit what was likely the most solid hybrid of 2018. It had a nice draw and ended up 12-15 feet from the hole with an uphill putt.
I promptly 3-putted.
But then, we are not talking about the putts, just the opening shot.
p.s. the above shot beat out my 4th ace, and 2nd of 2018, which I collected yesterday.

So ironically it was a ball I found and it has a logo of a remodeling company (VB Homes) on it. Unfortunately my wife works for a competitor of theirs.

Oh yeah it's not hard to fix. Hell I fell through my bedroom ceiling when doing work in the attic that was a big f'ing hole to fix. I'll have it fixed before I get a new net delivered

So I'm not disagreeing with you as I'm confident you have a better grasp of linguistics than me.legitimatebeef wrote: ↑Sat Jul 28, 2018 5:14 pmThat's not irony by the way. But how is it not irony that a golf ball with the logo of a home remodeling company was used to put a hole in the wall?

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
Because it's doesn't like, defy what's expected. If the logo on the ball was of say, the company that sold you the net, and they had guaranteed it wouldn't split on you, then there'd be some irony in seeing their ball embedded in the drywall. Maybe. What happen to you is more like, serendipitous or something.

Props to rukket. They sent me a free replacement net. I was not expecting that. I'm going to buy a 2nd and double net it

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
There have been some decent efforts this month but I need to go back to the last hole of Pierce Lake on August 3. The finishing hole is nominally 195 yards or so to the "middle". There is a pin position back right that snakes behind a large bunker with crap short and right. I measured the distance to the hole at around 230+ yards.
I have only one club in the arsenal that goes 230+ yards with a bit of roll out, and that is my driver. Hit a smooth tee shot and it tracked right for the hole. It hit the green and released back to the tucked pin position. I had dreams of another ace as I walked to the green (pin position is hidden until one gets to the middle of the green). 5 feet from the hole rested my ball. No ace but a darn nice penultimate shot, I thought to myself. Then I missed the birdie putt.

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
Not sure where to post this but this seems like the spot:
- Yesterday on Par 5 6th hole, card says 520, hit a nice drive and 4H to about 45 yards from front of green, one of those maybe i could have gotten there with my FW. Totally botched the 3rd shot - bladed it to 55-60 feet above the hole with a steel putt downhill. Of course, center of the cup for birdie.
- On the 12th hole, card says 379, huge drive, 9i to 20 feet above hole, nice putt for birdie.
- Today on the 6th, huge drive left my 210 up hill to the flag. Beautiful shot to 18 feet. Putt just missed, tap in birdie.
- Then on 12 duck hooked my drive into rough. From about 200, in medium rough with a partial side hill lie, hit another beauty FW to 20 feet. Sank the putt.

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
Well, so far this month I have played three times, other than a team competition down in Indiana. Although I have the weekend to top the following entry, I think this will hold up. Today I hit into a greenside bunker on the 13th hole at Huron Meadows. I was hoping to get the next shot close enough to give me a reasonable chance of saving par. Instead of getting it close, it went in. Birdie!! I think that is only the 3rd time in 55+ years I have holed out from the sand. In comparison, I have 4 hole-in-ones. So for me, holing out from the bunker is the rarest shot.

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
So the course I played today was different. Lots of houses and big thick rough like Doug shows in his pics.
Shot of the month for me. After blocking a 3w into the tree we find a ball in the rough barely visible. I have 181 to the flag with a bunker short. I took a massive rip at a 6i and launched it way up in the air landing hole high and releasing to 18'.
I fix the ball mark go to mark the ball and it's not my ball.
My best shot of the month was with the wrong ball.
Seems fitting.

Now that's funny.
(Still a great shot and excellent result to remember, the next time you are in a similar situation.

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
Already have a best shot of October.
I went upstairs to hit some balls and my son came up to hit some with me. I don't push him to play, and this is the 2nd or 3rd time he's asked. So we went up and alternated shots. He hit a "driver" (really a us kids 3w) 68 yards. I don't know if that is good for a 5 year old, but it's far compared to 6 months ago when he was struggling to hit it 25-30 yards.

Re: Describe Your Best Shot of the Month
Ok so I have a couple good shots from this round (although my above comment still stands).
#11. I was behind a tree and grabbed wedge to punch out, then at the last minute I had a "vision" or what ever you want to call it. I saw a window in the trees and knew it was a slice 8i. I knew I could slice an 8i up near the green and have a chip instead of being 60 yards out. I started the ball about 30 yards left of the green sliced it all the way back to 8' from the hole. I proceeded to miss the putt. My thought was "man that was the most well executed shot I've hit in a long time."
Then...
#13 par 3 180 to a pin in the back. It's a sucker pin, go long and it's really tough (if you can find your ball). I decide to hit a nice smooth cut 7i. Should be 170-175 yard shot. I flushed it right at the pin. It landed pin high and rolled onto the fringe. I left the birdie putt dead in the heart on the lip.
Ok maybe that is the best shot of the round now.
Then...
#15 I snap hook driver behind a tree. Again I think I should punch out and leave myself 75-80 yards (I have 110 from where I am). I said screw it let me try another hero shot. Worst case I am 80 yards out from a slightly worse angle. I wait for the tee box on #16 to clear because I'm aimed right at it. I decide to try to hit a punch slice 9i up near the green. Well I landed it within a foot of where I would want, it rolls up the steep bank of the elevated green and stops 25' from the hole. Give me 100 tries and I still don't think I'm even money to hit the green with 1 of them from here, but I did this time. Oh and this one I actually made the birdie putt. My one and only birdie of the day and other than when I holed out from 134 yards that is probably the most improbable birdie of my life.
So 2 perfectly executed very hard shots, and a perfectly struck shot.
