Feeling the need to post sometime. I must admit that I find alligators to be fascinating creatures. Each of the ponds in our community have at least one larger one. The biggest known guy lives in a waterway between our 9th and 18th holes on our Ocean course. He's at least 15 feet long and has a massive trunk that looks like he just ate.
The other really big one that I see frequently lives along the holes #5 and #6 on the same course. I refer to him as Big Horny Guy. I would guess that at least 80% of the alligator mating calls I have heard have been him. The other night he let out three consecutive calls while I was working on one two putt. If you've never heard heard an alligator mating call, it's kind of a cross of an extremely loud bullfrog croak and a lawn mower trying to start.
So the other night my tee shot on #6 (par 5) went way right. I got down to my ball and it was maybe three feet from the water. I had a nice gap between two trees to fit a 6i down the fairway. I spent several minutes scouting the water for snouts - waters edge is really when they are dangerous. Seeing nothing remotely like an alligator nose, I quickly addressed the ball and hit a beauty down the fairway right smack in the middle. Walked back to the pull cart and heard a noise behind me. It was BHG about 15 yards behind me. I never thought to look on the land.
Once I get south of the Mason Dixon Line I always need to remind myself that there are things on the golf course that will kill you.
and maybe eat you, too.

Pretty cool in a rather dark way. What course is that
The course is called Ocean Winds. The back nine is always windy as you are pretty close to the ocean and play to it for two holes.

Yes, carry a club when you are along the water as our snakes are much more venomous too.
