When a Member Goes Silent

This has nothing really to do with this forum. We have had folks drift away and that is somewhat natural with any golf forum.

I participate a bit on another forum. A regular contributor in the "60 and Over Thread" used a handle of "Sean." He had mentioned he had some health issues but still hit balls or played every day. He also seemed to post every day. Suddenly on 1/29/2025 he went silent. My guess is he is either in the hospital or dead.

It is not like I knew the guy but it sort of creeps me out thinking about his situation. I don't think he was married. He once boasted that he had something like 200 dozen Titleist ProV1 golf balls collected from his course. I picture him laying in his basement, surrounded by egg cartons containing golf balls, while his cat munches on his toes.

Or maybe he just got bored, stopped posting, and moved on.

I still leave a chair at the table open hoping Jfurr comes back. He asked if I was ok during the LA fires a couple months ago, at least. I have his number. I will drag his ass back in here eventually.

We really took a hit when the old board crashed. A few members got flung out into cyberspace, never to be seen again probably.

I must admit that I wondered if @bkuehn1952.2 had passed when he went silent, but it was only brain surgery. The nerve of the guy to ghost us.

Now that I’ve passed 60, sudden deaths seem to happen more frequently. Last month the husband of my wife’s friend dropped dead on the job, age around 65. Last week a man from our old town in NJ died in a skiing accident, age 55-60, and then a person visiting our club died in the parking lot after a high level tennis match, 64. Not being morbid, just happens more often to people my age. On the positive side, every time an event happens, Ms. Bogey gets really sweet for a few days over her concerns that I could go any day. Of course, I have zero near term risk factors other than an accident.

I've been silent of late, but I ain't dead, at least not at the moment. I'll let you know if that changes.
